Since this is an email thread, it may make more sense if it is read from bottom to top. An interesting piece of information about Austin's wife is in there too. I think I've tagged everyone who's on Facebook. Feel free to pass this along should I have overlooked anybody. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Dennis Please feel free to pass anything on to Joe's family. Email is certainly a lot easier to handle than 15 or 20m 73 Allan -----Original Message----- From: Dennis [mailto:dennis@denniso.com] Sent: 31 December 2009 18:52 To: Allan Isaacs Subject: Re: G3AQY Hello Allan, Yes, that is correct, he was "Joe" on the air, but he was Uncle George to me. I suspect that he used Joe on the ham bands because it was easier to send (and receive) on CW, although I never once heard him on morse. I have a friend who used an HT-37 for years back in the 1970's. That radio has some of the best audio quality around, but you really have to keep up with the phasing drift, else you're always transmitting DSB! The HQ-170 is another storied radio. BTW, I was fascinated by that homebrew HRO transceiver that Austin built for his daughter to "phone home" while she was away at school. The HRO dial is a marvel in and of itself. I hope to meet you on the air someday. I have just acquired a 3 element tri-band beam that I hope to get up in the air soon, just in time for the sunspots to come back. If it's alright with you, I'd like to pass this along to Joe's family. I know they'd all be interested in learning that Austin's wife is staying with you over the New Year's Eve. 73, Dennis O'Dell N4QM ----- Original Message ----- From: "Allan Isaacs" To: "'Dennis O'Dell'" Sent: Thursday, December 31, 2009 1:33 PM Subject: RE: G3AQY > Pleased to meet you Dennis. > I remember talking to W4CJG in Louisville many years ago.
